In an era dominated by technological advancements, ensuring access to education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is crucial for fostering innovation and diversity in the tech industry and to support its projected growth. The Indigitech initiative, a collaborative effort between Lancom Technology, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Code Avengers, Education Perfect, Intel and the Spark Foundation is a shining example of how industry leaders are coming together to inspire the next generation by providing digital learning to Intermediate age children. The Indigitech initiative places a special focus on Māori and Pacific Island communities, recognizing the disparities in technology exposure and career pathways. 

In a recent visit to Kelston Intermediate School, Lancom's AWS ambassador, Andre Tupara Morrison, showcased the transformative power of Generative AI using technologies such as AWS PartyRock, aiming to introduce students to cutting-edge technology and inspire their active involvement. Lancom's commitment to direct engagement allows representatives like Andre to share personal stories, making technology tangible for students and sparking their curiosity. This firsthand exposure not only serves to impress but also helps students envision a future where they can actively shape the digital landscape. By bringing Generative AI directly into the classroom, Lancom brings technology into practice rather than just theory. This allows for the nurturing of a generation of tech enthusiasts ready to contribute to the ever-growing world of technology.

Lancom has hired four women in the last year who have been part of this programme, which emphasises their commitment to bringing new talent into the business.

The company actively engages with student programs such as the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES), fostering an environment where emerging talents can thrive and contribute to the dynamic landscape of the technology industry. Additionally, Lancom's longstanding graduate program, demonstrates their commitment to equipping young minds with the skills and knowledge needed to propel the technology sector forward. 

Get involved in Indigitech 

A key aspect of Lancom Technology's involvement in Indigitech is to expand the reach of the program. This involves two main strategies: building demand by introducing the initiative to more schools through Lancom's extensive network and establishing sustainable supply by encouraging customers and partners to contribute to the cause.  

Organizations with an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) brief that includes a budget for tech and education sponsorship are encouraged to participate, fostering a long-term and sustainable impact on the initiative. 

New Zealand based Individuals or organizations interested in joining the Kaupapa and becoming sponsors are encouraged to consider a commitment of at least $5,000 per year, ideally extending their support for a duration of 2-3 years or more.
